Santee Cooper Lakes

Lake Marion is the largest lake in South Carolina with 90,000 acres of surface water and over 500 miles of shoreline.  Lake Marion is located within Berkeley, Calhoun, Clarendon, Orangeburg and Sumter Counties.

Lake Moultrie is the smaller of the two lakes in the Santee Cooper Reservoir. It is located within Berkeley County and has approximately 210 miles of shoreline and over 60,000 acres of surface water.

Blue Catfish and Flathead Catfish were originally introduced to the Santee Cooper system in the 1960s. They have since adapted to the lakes and have bred some of the largest freshwater fish many anglers have ever encountered.

According to SCDNR, the current record holder for the largest Blue Catfish caught in South Carolina weighed over 113 pounds and was caught on Lake Moultrie.

The current world record for largest Channel Catfish was also caught on Lake Moultrie, weighing 58 pounds.
